Derek took on a variety of work before joining the team at Detroit Barbers in 2016. From cooking to videography, engineering to factory work to tattoo artistry, he never found the right fit. That is until Derek stumbled onto barbering online. “After watching almost every YouTube video I could find, I was hooked.” He enrolled in the Barber/Styling College of Lansing to earn his certification. “In today's world, it's a lost art and, along with giving a good cut, I want people to leave the shop feeling fulfilled, feeling that the 30-minute break from the hustle that is life, was worth it,” he said. When he’s not at the shop, Derek is likely seeking a good cup of coffee or spending time outside - backpacking, camping or rock climbing.
