Barbering for Farmington

Farmington is a small, walkable downtown along Grand River Ave, but a small downtown means a small number of barbershop options. We do not have a location inside Farmington, and we are not going to pretend our Southfield shop is around the corner from Shiawassee Park. It is a real drive, just a manageable one.

From most points near downtown Farmington, Grand River Ave connects to Northwestern Hwy, which runs directly into Southfield Town Center. The trip usually takes twelve to fifteen minutes, similar to a run out to the Farmington Civic Theater and back if you were doing errands on a Saturday afternoon.

What you get once you arrive is a shop set up specifically for men's and boys' haircuts: skin fades, tapered sides, line-ups, and beard trims, plus a straight-razor hot towel shave that most downtown Farmington storefronts simply do not offer. Prices run from $35 for a standard men's cut, $40 for a fade, $30 for kids, $20 for a beard trim or line-up, and $45 for the hot towel shave.

Families near Shiawassee Park or the residential streets north of downtown often plan the trip around a Sunday, since we're open 11-5 that day when a lot of small Farmington storefronts are closed. Others come after work along the Grand River corridor and treat it as an easy add-on to an evening drive home through Southfield.

Parking at Town Center is free and covered, which is a real upgrade over squeezing into a spot near the Civic Theater on a busy weekend. Book online ahead of time if you want a guaranteed slot, though we do take walk-ins as the schedule allows.

Farmington's downtown is small enough that most residents already know the route to Southfield well from other errands, whether that is a trip to the Farmington Farmers Market on Saturdays or a drive out to the bigger shopping centers along Grand River past Halsted Rd. Families connected to Farmington Public Schools, including students at Farmington High School, are a regular part of our fall traffic as parents look for a clean cut before homecoming or a fall sports photo. Longtime residents near the Governor Warner Mansion and the historic district sometimes mention that Farmington used to have its own barbershop decades ago, and while that is not the case anymore, the twelve to fifteen minute drive to Southfield has become the accepted routine. We also see a share of clients who work downtown near the small business district on Grand River and squeeze in an appointment on a lunch break before heading back to the office. The shop's pace stays steady no matter when you come from Farmington, which is part of why the trip keeps feeling worth it. Even guys who grew up going to a corner barber near Grand River tend to say the Southfield shop is worth the extra few minutes once they see the fade.
