Barbering for Mexicantown
Mexicantown, centered around Bagley Ave and bordered by Clark Park, is one of the closest neighborhoods to our Corktown shop, and the two are practically connected by Michigan Ave itself. There's no Detroit Barbers location in Mexicantown yet, but the drive to Corktown is about as easy as it gets in our service area.
Michigan Ave runs right through both neighborhoods, so getting from the Bagley Ave corridor to 2000 Michigan Ave rarely takes more than 7 to 10 minutes outside of rush hour. There's no need to jump on the freeway or navigate side streets, just a straight shot up one of Detroit's oldest commercial corridors, past the taquerias and bakeries that give the neighborhood its character.
That short drive gets you a full lineup of services built around consistency. Fades start at $40, men's haircuts start at $35, beard trims start at $20, and line-ups start at $20. Regulars from Mexicantown appreciate that the cut they get in June looks the same as the one they got in January, no surprises.
For clients who want to slow down and make a visit out of it, our hot towel straight-razor shave at $45 is worth the extra fifteen minutes. It's become a go-to for people who treat their haircut day as a small reset rather than a rushed errand, particularly on weekends after a walk through Clark Park.
Parking is rarely a hassle. Street spots along Michigan Ave and the surrounding Corktown blocks are usually open, especially on weekday afternoons. We're open Tuesday through Friday 10 to 7, Saturday 10 to 5, and Sunday 11 to 5, closed Mondays, so there's flexibility for Mexicantown families and workers alike.
Because the two neighborhoods sit so close together, a lot of Mexicantown clients treat our Corktown shop as their neighborhood barbershop even though it's technically across the boundary line. Kids from the area often come in for haircuts starting at $30 on the same visit a parent gets a fade, which keeps a family trip to one stop instead of two separate errands.
The short distance also means it's easy to fit a haircut around other plans, whether that's grabbing food along Bagley Ave afterward or heading into downtown for the evening. Once you've made the trip from Mexicantown once, the route up Michigan Ave becomes familiar enough that most clients stop thinking of it as a separate neighborhood at all. Longtime Mexicantown residents sometimes remember when the two neighborhoods felt more separated before Michigan Ave saw new investment, and today the short drive barely registers as leaving the neighborhood at all. Even on Saturday mornings when the shop tends to be busiest, Mexicantown clients rarely find the short drive up Michigan Ave to be a deterrent, since it takes less time than parking and walking to some spots within the neighborhood itself.
