Men's Grooming Guide
The Detroit Barbers primer on cuts, beards, products, and finding the right barber.
How often to get a cut
Most men benefit from a cut every 3–4 weeks. Fades tighten up sooner — every 2–3 weeks if you want it sharp.
Beard maintenance
Shape every 2 weeks. Wash 2–3 times per week with beard wash. Beard oil daily, especially in Michigan winters.
Product basics
Pomade for hold + shine. Clay or paste for matte texture. Sea salt spray for natural volume.
Hot towel shave
Once a month is the move. Steaming towels open pores, the straight razor delivers the smoothest finish — nothing else compares.
Picking the right barber
Bring a reference photo. Tell your barber what you do for work and how much time you'll spend styling. The cut should fit your life.
