Rivertown is one of Detroit's quieter riverside neighborhoods, anchored by the Detroit Riverwalk and older industrial buildings turned residential at Stroh River Place. It's a great spot for a walk along the water, but it doesn't have a Detroit Barbers shop of its own. Residents here typically head west into downtown and continue on to our Corktown location on Michigan Ave.

The route is fairly direct. Jefferson Ave takes you from Rivertown into downtown, where you can pick up Michigan Ave heading west and follow it all the way to 2000 Michigan Ave. Depending on downtown traffic, especially around events near the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre, the drive usually takes 12 to 15 minutes.

Once you're in the chair, the focus is on cuts that hold up, not just look good the day you leave. Men's haircuts start at $35, fades start at $40, line-ups start at $20, and beard trims start at $20. If you're stopping by after a walk along the Riverwalk, a quick line-up or beard trim is often all it takes to feel put together again.

Parking near our Corktown shop is usually easier than what you'll find around Stroh River Place on weekends, particularly on weekday afternoons when the street spots along Michigan Ave open up. We're open Tuesday through Friday 10 to 7, Saturday 10 to 5, and Sunday 11 to 5, closed Mondays.

Rivertown draws a lot of residents who work downtown and value being close to the water, and many of them are used to making short drives for services that aren't yet available in the neighborhood itself. The trip west on Jefferson Ave and then Michigan Ave becomes second nature after a visit or two, especially once you know which stretch of Michigan Ave tends to have open curb space.

If you're coming from Stroh River Place or the newer developments nearby, it helps to build a little extra time into the drive on weekends when the Riverwalk and nearby event spaces bring more traffic downtown. On weekday mornings and early afternoons, though, the trip to Corktown is quick enough that plenty of Rivertown clients treat it as a routine stop rather than a planned outing. A number of Rivertown clients also work near the GM Renaissance Center, and folding a Corktown haircut into a commute home along Jefferson Ave and Michigan Ave saves them from a separate weekend trip. On weekends, some Rivertown clients pair their haircut with a walk along the Dequindre Cut, using the Corktown stop as a bookend to a longer day spent outside rather than a quick in-and-out visit.
