Our 4 oz. Mud in Coconut & Citrus is the heaviest matte product in the entire Detroit Barbers pomade line. Built for guys with thick or coarse hair, big textured styles, exaggerated messy quiffs, and any cut where the goal is maximum grip, maximum hold, and a completely matte finish with no shine at all. The clay-like base sets harder than any of our cream or paste products and gives you the kind of shape memory you can sculpt aggressively — push hair in any direction, mold it, separate it, and it stays exactly where you put it. The coconut and citrus scent is tropical, warm, and clean, with the coconut leading and the citrus brightening it. It fades within an hour and never lingers overpoweringly. The mud distributes best with thorough warming between the palms — cold mud doesn't move, but warmed mud melts down and works in evenly. Thick and coarse hair handles it without going stiff or chalky; fine hair can use it sparingly but a lighter matte cream is usually a better daily option for fine textures. Despite the heavy hold and clay-like base, it still washes out with one regular shampoo — no clarifying wash required. This is the product our barbers reach for when a client wants a serious, exaggerated, gravity-defying textured style that has to hold all day without softening.

How to Use

Scoop a dime-to-nickel-sized amount. Warm aggressively between palms until the mud softens, melts, and distributes evenly across your fingers. Apply to dry hair, working from the roots out. Shape aggressively with fingers — the shape memory will hold whatever you sculpt.
